On March 17, State Grid Huai'an Power Supply Company successfully completed the replacement and maintenance of current transformers 5011 and 5013 at the 500 kV Shanghe Substation.

Maintenance Personnel Perform Replacement Operations

Completed in December 1999, the Shanghe Substation serves as the terminal station of the Yanghuai Project, an ultra-high-voltage transmission initiative. In addition to its critical role in transmitting electricity from the north to the south of the East China Power Grid, it is also a key hub for clean power transmission from Jiangsu Tianwan Nuclear Power Station and west-to-east power transmission from in China.

The environment for this current transformer replacement was complex, with densely packed equipment and limited space, making it challenging to maintain safe distances for large machinery. To address this, the company implemented a high-altitude near electric autonomous alarm device to perform 3D mapping of the maintenance area, mark the coordinates of charged components, and set safety thresholds that trigger autonomous alarms when exceeded, thereby enhancing on-site safety management and control.

Operators Conduct Maintenance Operations

Additionally, a "one-stop project manager" system was implemented for this operation. The "one-stop project manager" is responsible not only for overseeing progress, technology, and safety control at the site but also for end-to-end tasks such as formulating pre-maintenance plans, coordinating construction machinery and materials, and selecting inspection personnel. This innovative system helps enhance team members' capabilities, transitioning them from “being able to do the work” to “being able to manage it”.

The operation took place from March 9 to March 17, lasting nine days. The maintenance task included replacing two sets of 500 kV current transformers, along with the maintenance and testing of 27 circuit breakers and switches. (Text/Photo by Wang Jiahui and Wang Liang)
