"Electricity Guardians" Safeguard the Free Flight of Birds

Rare birds like crested ibises and white egrets are foraging, frolicking, and flying along the banks of the Hanjiang River in Yang County, Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province, presenting an ecological and harmonious view of nature.

A crested ibis flies freely

The crested ibis, a precious ecological symbol, is known as the "bird of good omen" and the "pearl of the east." There are currently over 11,000 crested ibises in the world, over 7,700 of which inhabit Shaanxi Province.

To safeguard the free flight of birds, State Grid Hanzhong Power Supply Company has considered Hanzhong's geographical conditions and industrial features and has proactively participated in bird protection. Guided by the principle of a "combination of control and optimization measures," and based on specific seasonality, terrain, and bird habits, the company has installed manmade nests and insulating barriers on the safe parts of electric poles and towers, and conducted surveys of birds on poles and towers within its jurisdiction, establishing a multidimensional "human + technology + intelligence" protection system.

Drone point cloud data collection, 3D modeling, and other IT technologies facilitate data collection and real-time monitoring of line protection zones, effectively improving the efficiency of protection management and intelligent decision-making.

In addition, the company has developed and was the first in Shaanxi to apply a sound-wave bird protection device, which prevents and mitigates the risk of harm to the crested ibis at the source and contributes to a harmonious living environment for this species.
