On May 7, it was learned from State Grid Wuxi Power Supply Company that during the 2025 May Day holiday, all 135 charging stations across Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, were powered entirely by green electricity.
The green electricity primarily came from renewable sources such as solar and wind power. In late April, under the guidance of the Wuxi Municipal Development and Reform Commission, charging operators collectively purchased 2.22 million kWh of green electricity through market-oriented trading in advance, which was then allocated to charging stations citywide.
Charging operators implemented coordinated measures by reducing service fees from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., encouraging new energy vehicle owners to charge during peak hours of renewable energy generation. This initiative effectively promoted real-time utilization of clean energy.
"Vehicle owners choosing to charge during discounted hours can save over 16% on charging costs. For example, with a 40 kWh charging session, each vehicle can save approximately 8 yuan on average," explained Li Xiangchao, Deputy Director of the Marketing Department at State Grid Wuxi Power Supply Company.
Statistics show that during the May Day holiday, over 50,000 new energy vehicles in Wuxi utilized green electricity for charging. This "pure green" travel initiative accumulated over 11 million kilometers of zero-emission travel, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1,200 metric tons.
