On May 28, the China (Gansu)–Malaysia Specialty Agricultural Products Trade and Investment Promotion Conference, with the theme “Gansu Flavors along the Silk Road, Culinary Connections to Southeast Asia”, kicked off in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province.

Organized by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) Headquarters and co-hosted by its Gansu Branch and ICBC Malaysia, this cross-border economic and trade event aims to use specialty agricultural products as a medium to help enterprises expand their presence in global markets, promote economic and trade exchanges and mutual benefits, and jointly explore new opportunities for in-depth industrial chain cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.

The conference adopted an “offline + online” hybrid format, building a bridge for commercial cooperation between Gansu and Malaysia.

This event highlighted the complementary advantages of Gansu’s authentic traditional Chinese medicinal materials, plateau summer vegetables, potato products, beef and mutton, flowers, and forage, and Malaysia’s high-quality exports such as palm oil, durian, cocoa, and rubber.

Through industrial policy interpretation, presentations on cross-border financial solutions, enterprise experience sharing, and matchmaking promotions, the conference facilitated the signing of credit agreements between ICBC and foreign trade enterprises, as well as intent-based procurement agreements between Gansu enterprises and Malaysian companies.

Meanwhile, participants jointly launched the Malaysian Country Pavilion on the “Global Business Matchmaking” online platform.

It is reported that since its launch in August 2020, ICBC’s “Global Business Matchmaking” cross-border platform has attracted 630,000 enterprises from 75 countries and regions. The platform has hosted over 280 matchmaking activities, supporting national-level open exhibitions such as the China International Import Expo, the Canton Fair, the China International Fair for Trade in Services, and the China International Consumer Products Expo. It also supports key international cooperation mechanisms including the Belt and Road Initiative and BRICS, facilitating over 11,000 cooperation intents.

Officials from the Gansu Provincial Department of Commerce, Gansu Federation of Industry and Commerce, Export-Import Bank of Malaysia Berhad, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation, ICBC Gansu Branch, and ICBC Malaysia attended the event. Enterprise representatives from Malaysia and Gansu in the fields of agriculture, finance, food and pharmaceuticals, and supply chain participated in the conference.
