Recently, in Wushengyi Town, Yongdeng County, Lanzhou, Gansu Province, State Grid Lanzhou Electric Power Supply Co., Ltd. completed the renovation of the 330kV Wuhong double-circuit line using a common-tower structure. The project involved constructing a new 42-meter-high tower and an approximately 800-meter single-circuit line equipped with energy-efficient four-subconductor cables. As a result, the proportion of common towers along the Wuhong 330kV double-circuit line was reduced to 9.9 percent. This upgrade significantly optimizes the electromagnetic loop shedding structure of the power grid in central Gansu, enhancing both its load capacity and its ability to integrate new energy sources.

Located in a natural pasture and a key section of a flood prevention dike with steep mountainous terrain, the construction faced significant challenges. To address these, the company employed heavy-lift drones for hoisting and aerial cable transport. This approach greatly improved construction efficiency, reduced manual labor, and avoided potential damage to the mountainous terrain caused by large machinery. It also helped further reduce the project’s environmental impact.(Text and photos by Ren Yong and Li Xiaodong)
