Fully Installing Photovoltaic "Four Capabilities" Devices

On the roofs of farmers’ houses in Jiangbei Street, Jinhua, rows of photovoltaic panels are basking in the sunlight, converting dazzling sunshine into clean electricity. On September 12, new energy operation and maintenance personnel from State Grid Jinhua Power Supply Company braved the scorching sun and went door-to-door to install photovoltaic "Four Capabilities" devices for local farmers. As of now, the company has completed the installation of 5,265 sets of photovoltaic "Four Capabilities" equipment, covering more than 1,000 enterprises and over 4,000 households with distributed photovoltaics.

In recent years, the installed capacity of distributed photovoltaics in Jinhua City has grown rapidly. However, photovoltaic power generation "depends on the weather." As soon as sunlight changes, power generation fluctuates—just like the water flow from a faucet—which can easily cause grid voltage to exceed standards, frequency to become unstable, and even damage distribution equipment.

To address these challenges, the "Four Capabilities" system was introduced. The so-called photovoltaic "Four Capabilities" refer to "observability, measurability, adjustability, and controllability." You can imagine it as installing a "smart brain" on a photovoltaic power station—it can monitor power generation in real time, remotely adjust power output, and ensure that every kilowatt hour of electricity is stably and efficiently integrated into the grid.

Previously, operation and maintenance were a matter of "passive firefighting," but now, thanks to the real-time monitoring and second-level fault warning function of the "Four Capabilities" devices, the system can issue an alarm within three seconds, achieving "proactive early warning." The devices can also "generate electricity flexibly" according to weather, sunlight, and electricity demand, ensuring a perfect match between supply and demand.
