On February 9, the Dongying Spring Festival Folk Culture Exchange Event, themed “Celebrating Chinese Festivals: Delivering Blessings Through Fu-Character Rubbings,” was held at the Chinese Cultural Experience Center of the Confucius Institute at Kangwon National University in Chuncheon, South Korea.

Centered on Spring Festival “Fu Culture,” the event showcased a diverse collection of ink rubbings featuring uniquely styled “Fu” characters (meaning “fortune” or “good luck”). Guests were introduced to the origins and structure of the “Fu” character, as well as different calligraphic writing techniques, gaining deeper insight into its cultural meanings. While immersing themselves in the festive atmosphere of the Spring Festival, participants also learned about Dongying’s ecological strengths and cultural heritage as a city located at the Yellow River Estuary, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of Dongying.

During the event, South Korean participants took part in making “Fu”-character ink rubbings and practicing calligraphy, experiencing the heartfelt blessings symbolized by the “Fu” character.

In 2026, Dongying City will host a series of “Enjoy the Chinese Festival” themed events in South Korea, centered on traditional Chinese festivals such as the Spring Festival, Lantern Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival. During the Spring Festival, multiple “Chinese Spring Festival” cultural exchange events will be held in South Korea, aiming to build a bridge for people-to-people cultural exchange between Dongying and South Korea, and to offer Korean visitors a close and authentic experience of Dongying’s distinctive folk customs and the charm of traditional Chinese culture.
