March 28 marks the sixth "Chinese Sturgeon Conservation Day." To protect the Yangtze Mother River and maintain aquatic biodiversity, on this occasion Yichang and Jingzhou in Hubei and Chongming in Shanghai simultaneously held Chinese sturgeon release events, with enthusiastic participation from volunteers. State Grid Yichang Electric Power Company provided full power supply assurance for the release event at the Yichang site, helping Chinese sturgeon return to the wild.

State Grid Yichang Electric Power Company is focused on watershed ecological protection. It has been continuously advancing the construction and upgrading of shore power facilities along the Yangtze River, and has introduced a range of power supply modes tailored to the significant water level fluctuations in the Three Gorges Dam area and the diverse electricity needs of vessels. By promoting the widespread adoption of ship electrification, the company is reducing fuel pollution and noise disturbance at the source, creating a clean and quiet habitat for the Chinese sturgeon.
To meet the core power needs of artificial breeding and large-scale sturgeon aquaculture, the company assigns a dedicated power service manager (known as an "electric steward") to conduct regular inspections, ensuring key equipment such as aerators and water temperature monitoring systems operate reliably around the clock. The company also regularly organizes shore power operation and maintenance personnel to carry out electrical hazard inspections, and works with water conservancy departments to ensure power supply for ecological dispatch operations — supporting hydraulic installations in precisely regulating flow and simulating natural peak flood conditions, enabling Chinese sturgeon to spawn naturally in the wild, and harnessing electricity to support scientific conservation efforts.

Going forward, State Grid Yichang Electric Power Company will continue to advance shore power construction and operation and maintenance, enhancing efforts across power supply assurance for sturgeon protection, shore power pollution control, and ecological support. Through high-quality power services, it will build a robust, long-term safeguard for the protection of rare Yangtze River species. (by You Qinchang and Hu Wuyang)
