"Boss Zhang, the sockets of these temperature control boxes are a bit loose, and the debris around the wires should be cleared in time. A humid environment can easily cause short circuits." Recently, at a cockroach breeding base in Caotan Village, Mengyuan Township, Pengyang County, Guyuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, staff from the Mengyuan Power Supply Station of Pengyang Power Supply Company were conducting a comprehensive inspection of electrical equipment in the breeding sheds.
As temperatures rise in spring, various specialty farming industries have entered their peak production season. As an important resource for medicinal use and protein feed, cockroach farming has been emerging locally in recent years. However, it requires strict environmental conditions, especially stable temperature and humidity, which rely heavily on electrical equipment. Any power outage or equipment failure could lead to significant economic losses.
At the breeding base, staff communicated in depth with farmers. Given the characteristics of the sheds—limited space, humid conditions, and dense electrical equipment—they gathered detailed information on daily power loads, equipment operation frequency, and potential issues during power usage. Following the principle of full coverage, they carefully inspected key areas such as wiring layout, leakage protection devices, and connections of high-power equipment. They also checked whether insulation layers were aging or damaged, whether switch contacts were functioning properly, and whether grounding devices were secure and effective. Special attention was given to waterproofing and dust prevention measures. A total of three potential safety hazards were identified and eliminated on site.
"Our farming is different from traditional poultry. Cockroaches are extremely sensitive to the environment. Constant temperature and humidity must be maintained, and equipment such as fans, air conditioners, and humidifiers must operate around the clock," said Zhang. "Recently, electricity demand has increased, which made me a bit worried. Thanks to the technicians from the power supply station for their on-site service, we now feel much more reassured."
During the inspection, the staff also distributed brochures on safe electricity use, explained key safety practices such as moisture protection and prevention of short circuits caused by small animals, and guided farmers on the proper use of high-power equipment to help them reduce energy costs.
Going forward, the company will continue to monitor electricity demand from local specialty farming industries, establish personalized service profiles, and support rural revitalization with reliable power supply and high-quality services.
