Ulanqab Accelerates Drive to Become China's "Token Capital"

DeepSeek recently sparked widespread attention with its recruitment of a senior data center operations and maintenance engineer based in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, offering a monthly salary of up to 30,000 yuan (guaranteed 14 months' pay).

In July 2025, China’s first source-grid-load-storage integrated project directly supplying green power to a data center commenced operations in Ulanqab, delivering 848 million kWh of green electricity annually. Supported by this low-cost green energy, the value of each kilowatt-hour can be amplified dozens of times through token generation.
To harness this potential, Ulanqab has outlined a three-tier development path: "Grassland Cloud Valley — Intelligent Computing City — Token Capital." The city has issued a three-year action plan targeting a computing power scale of over 200,000 PetaFLOPS and an industrial revenue exceeding 8 billion yuan by 2026. Furthermore, it is building a comprehensive industrial chain that covers computing power services, token trading, and intelligent application scenarios, alongside establishing an industry-education integration community to nurture local talent.
The viral phrase "earning 30,000 yuan a month guarding a server room" reflects Ulanqab’s ambition to seize the commanding heights of the computing power industry and establish itself as a renowned "Token Capital." The local government has rolled out a "Project Steward" system and a "Leadership Liaison" mechanism, which have proven so effective that some enterprises have decided to expand their investments the very next day after setting up operations.
