In recent days, Huai’an, Jiangsu Province, has experienced persistent high temperatures. Residential cooling demand has surged, keeping the power grid load at a high level. To ensure reliable power supply during the summer peak season, State Grid Huai’an Power Supply Company has conducted intensive inspections of power equipment across the city.

Recently, during a centralized infrared inspection of 500 kV transmission lines, the company discovered a heating defect on the jumper plate of the tension clamp on the conductor at Tower No. 244 of the 500 kV Yishang Line. As a key corridor of the regional backbone transmission network, the 500 kV Yishang Line plays an important role in power transmission and load distribution.
To ensure safe and reliable power supply, the company promptly developed a live-line maintenance plan. On July 31, it successfully eliminated the defect without interrupting power supply by using an “electric lifting device + equipotential operation” approach.
Before the operation began, personnel conducted a thorough site survey to identify key parameters, including the terrain of the operation area and the required safety clearance for live-line work. After the operation began, ground support personnel completed the implementation of on-site safety measures and inspected tools and equipment. Equipotential operators entered the electric field using the electric lifting device, moved along the conductor to the overheating point, and carried out a series of standardized procedures, including cleaning contaminants from the jumper plate, tightening bolts and conducting infrared reinspection of the equipment. These efforts effectively eliminated the issues of poor contact and resistive overheating.
