On September 14, crews completed conductor stringing for the Yellow River crossing at the junction of Jingtai and Jingyuan counties, marking the successful completion of the entire Gansu section of the Gansu–Zhejiang ±800 kV Ultra-High-Voltage Direct Current (UHVDC) transmission project.

This river crossing was the most critical technical challenge of the entire line. The 2.731-kilometer span required the erection of four new towers in rugged terrain, imposing extreme demands on construction safety, technical precision, and project scheduling.
To ensure efficient and orderly progress, State Grid Gansu Electric Power Company implemented rigorous advance planning, completed the required construction filing, enforced strict material quality standards, and maintained tight oversight across all construction stages.
As a major national power initiative, the 2,370-kilometer line traverses six provinces and regions with a transmission capacity of 8 million kilowatts.

As the world's first UHV project to feature flexible DC terminals at both ends—specifically engineered to integrate large-scale renewable energy—the project is scheduled for commissioning in 2027. Once operational, it will deliver over 36 billion kWh of electricity to Zhejiang annually—including 21.2 billion kWh from renewable sources—reducing standard coal consumption by 6.4 million metric tons and carbon dioxide emissions by 17 million metric tons per year. This will significantly bolster energy synergy and green development between China's eastern and western regions.
Construction of the line has progressed in tandem with the development of converter stations at both ends. Since 2026, core equipment installation has been underway at the Wuwei ±800 kV converter station, with the 750 kV grid connection, converter transformer installation, and auxiliary equipment commissioning already successfully completed.
