Reliable Power Supports Higher Sweet Potato Output and Income in Xuchang, Henan

On September 21, State Grid Xuchang Power Supply Company sent staff to the sweet potato growing base of Qunyue Planting Cooperative in Shuangmiao Township, Xiangcheng County, Xuchang, Henan Province, to inspect its electrical facilities and help ensure stable production and income during the autumn harvest.

Sweet potatoes are a key agricultural industry in Xiangcheng County. The county has developed a supply chain covering seedling propagation, storage and preservation, and the processing of sweet potatoes into starch vermicelli and starch sheets. This autumn, the county’s 220,000 mu (about 14,667 hectares) of sweet potato fields have entered the harvest season. Harvesting machinery, cold storage equipment and processing lines are operating at full capacity, driving a sharp rise in electricity demand.

To meet the industry’s needs, State Grid Xuchang Power Supply Company has improved its agricultural power supply services and set up a fast-track service channel for the autumn harvest. It has assigned operations and customer service staff to sweet potato growing areas and processing businesses. They inspect irrigation power lines, distribution transformers, electrical distribution cabinets in processing workshops and residual-current protection devices, correcting defects as they are found and promptly addressing safety risks.

Staff also visit large-scale growers, cooperatives and processing businesses to explain safe electricity use in autumn, energy-efficient equipment operation and emergency procedures for power outages. They advise customers on the proper use of harvesting, refrigeration and processing equipment to prevent overloading and improper electricity use. The company has also streamlined application procedures to address requests for increased power capacity, equipment maintenance and temporary electricity supply during the harvest.
