As of October 11, 2026, the Yazhong–Jiangxi ±800 kV ultra-high-voltage direct-current (UHVDC) transmission project, also named the Yahu UHVDC Line, has delivered more than 100 billion kWh of clean hydropower to Jiangxi's power grid. As Jiangxi's first UHV power transmission artery, it serves as a critical pillar for provincial energy security and green transition, marking that China's West-to-East Power Transmission Strategy has borne fruit in Jiangxi.
Stretching 1,696 kilometers, the project starts at the Yalong River Converter Station in Sichuan and terminates at the Poyang Lake Converter Station in Jiangxi, with a rated transmission capacity of 8 million kW. At its peak daily transmission volume, the line can cover nearly one-fifth of Jiangxi’s maximum load on the centrally dispatched grid, effectively meeting the essential power demand for the province's economic and social development. Calculated based on Jiangxi's 2025 per capita residential electricity consumption, 100 billion kWh of clean electricity is sufficient to satisfy household power demand for the province's 44.74 million permanent residents for over two years. Compared with conventional coal-fired power generation, this volume of hydropower cuts standard coal consumption by 45.15 million tonnes and carbon dioxide emissions by roughly 73.95 million tonnes, delivering solid energy underpinning for building ecologically sound Jiangxi.
Since the project was put into operation in June 2021, State Grid Jiangxi Electric Power has taken the Poyang Lake Converter Station as a base to cultivate a cohort of UHV operation and maintenance specialists. Sustained high-quality O&M has enabled the station to achieve 1,938 consecutive days of safe operation, with its energy availability rate consistently ranking at the top tier within the State Grid system. Moving forward, State Grid Jiangxi Electric Power will continue to protect this key west-to-east energy transmission artery, injecting robust green momentum into the high-quality economic and social development of Jiangxi.
