On October 20, the micro-drama I Am a Tea Server in Huoshan premiered across major online platforms, with all 12 episodes released consecutively. Just over one month ago, the production was selected for the 3rd Hong Kong International Short Film Festival. It will be screened and compete for awards in Hong Kong from October 24 to 25.

Centered on rural revitalization and built around the intangible cultural heritage practice of making Huoshan Yellow Bud tea (Huoshan Huangya), this series tells the story of young people returning to their hometown to carry forward traditional tea-making skills. It incorporates the traditional technique of “three rounds of yellowing and three rounds of baking” as well as scenic high-mountain tea plantations into its plot. Boasting a long history, Huoshan Huangya was a tribute tea during the Ming Dynasty and is listed for protection under the EU–China Geographical Indications Agreement.

This is another instalment in the In Huoshan series. Its previous title, I Run a Homestay in Huoshan, has already reached a wide audience. Leveraging the campaign “Visit Lu’an Through Micro-Dramas”, Lu’an City is working to convert online viewership generated by film and television productions into sustained tourist arrivals.

Nestled deep in the hinterland of the Dabie Mountains, Huoshan County hosts multiple 4A-rated tourist attractions alongside hot springs, artist villages and other cultural and tourism resources. Through moving images, this micro-drama tells the stories of this tea-growing region, enabling more viewers to discover Huoshan’s tea culture and the natural scenery of the Dabie Mountains on screen.
