Zhao Quan: Open-Source Collaboration and Exchange Create New Opportunities for Developing Countries in Sharing Benefits of AI

The 2026 WIC Global Elite Training-Future Digital Leadership Development Workshop started on November 2 in Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province. During the program, Zhao Quan, Senior Programme Manager of Trade and Investment Policy of the International Trade Centre, moderated an interactive group discussion themed "National AI Strategy Development".

Zhao noted that the rapid development of AI technology has caused varying degrees of concern among many developing countries. He remarked that the workshop provides a valuable platform for participants from different countries to exchange ideas, and helps developing countries gain a better understanding of the latest global AI trends and learn firsthand from China's practical experiences in the field, while encouraging them to explore how to align emerging technologies with their own development needs. Meanwhile, face-to-face exchanges are creating new opportunities for cross-border cooperation in the future. Zhao pointed out that, as a major global player in AI technology, China's commitment to open source offers developing countries new approaches and opportunities to address the challenges they face in AI development.
