Recently, the expansion area of Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding opened with the total area of the base expanded by nearly 2.5 times. Up to now, 43 giant pandas and 10 red pandas have moved into their "new home" in the expansion area.
According to the staff, the expansion area of the base conforms to and follows the original topography and landforms. Through using the multi-level landscape belt of mountain valleys, 11 panda venues, multiple science venues, tourist pedestrian streets and other tourist venues were constructed. The base can accommodate about 200 giant pandas after the completion of the expansion project.
The Observation Tower is a new "Internet-famous" landmark built during the expansion process of Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Also named the "Spring Bamboo Pagoda" due to its resemblance to bamboo shoots, the favorite food of giant pandas, the tower has, together with the cute giant panda, become a landmark of Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.
