On June 12, the first whole life-cycle carbon neutral building in China, "Impression of Yu Village" Library opened to the public and welcomed readers. The zero-carbon service crews of State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Co., Ltd. visited the library with a tailored electrical inspection. The appliances inspected included lighting circuits, AC electrical load control circuits, roof-mounted photovoltaic power system, etc.

Zhejiang Province is the place where the idea "Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" was first put forth. In recent years, the exploration and innovation of low carbon initiatives in key sectors like energy, industry, and transportation has been boosted. With the acceleration of urbanization and the rapid growth of the tertiary industry, the architecture industry is responsible for about 22% of the carbon emission nationwide, in which public buildings contribute the most, so it is urgent to make them "green". State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Co., Ltd. is the first in the country to introduce "Zero Carbon Index" for public buildings. It has been designed on a scientific and feasible quantitative rating system, which can calculate, analyse and assess carbon emissions of public buildings.
PEDF Intelligent System applied at "Impression of Yu Village" Library
The Future Library, the main building of the "Impression of Yu Village" Library project, is a sample of "Zero Carbon Index" building. It is equipped with tubular daylight devices and intelligent sun blinds which assist with the heat insulation of the outside walls and promote natural ventilation. Energy storage batteries are installed on the rooftop to preserve photovoltaic power. And PEDF (Photovoltaic, Energy storage, Direct current and Flexibility Photovoltaic) technology is introduced to power up appliances such as DC air conditioners, as well as storing excess power promptly. This precise control of energy in the building ensures the realization of a whole life-cycle zero carbon emission.
Next, State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Co., Ltd. will tap into the big data on electric energy consumption, so as to analyse and calculate the level of carbon emissions of public buildings. It will also provide customized services that both supply power and save energy, such as electrical remodeling of buildings and AC electrical load control management, etc. The company aims to set a whole new standard of green power and to help realize the energy-efficient functioning of public buildings.
