The First Electric Tensioner with Integrated Electricity Generation and Storage in China Successfully Piloted

"Attention everyone, prepare for operation, start traction. "On June 13, under the command of the commander, the first electric tensioner with integrated electricity generation and storage in China started operating at the site of the Weiheyuan 330 kV line project in Jinggu Town, Kangle County, Linxia Prefecture, Gansu Province. It then unfolded the traction rope through the intelligent control system, marking the first pilot application of this equipment in China.

The integrated electricity generation and storage electric tensioner goes into operation

As one of the most critical mechanical equipment in power grid construction, the tensioner works together with the traction machine to provide traction force and tension for the conductors, lifting the silver wires off into the air. Compared with traditional hydraulic tensioners, electric tensioners have improved tension control sensitivity to the millisecond level and reduced tension control deviation to 1 percent, providing more precise tension control for unfolding conductors and greatly improving construction efficiency. The electric tensioner, as a revolutionary innovation in power grid construction equipment, marks a new electrified and green trend for power construction equipment.

"During operation, the electric tensioner utilizes the motor to generate electricity, allowing efficient recovery and storage of traction energy. It not only eliminates the need for fuel but also does not require external charging, realizing an integrated cycle of energy generation, storage, and utilization. " said Bai Haowei, a member of the R&D team of State Grid Gansu Transmission and Transformation Engineering Company.

According to on-site data, the equipment has an energy recovery rate of 65.5 percent, saving 22.8 liters of diesel per hour, and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 59.7 kilograms per hour. Moreover, it also reduces construction noise from over 70 decibels with traditional equipment to below 30 decibels.

The electric tensioner this time delivers excellent performance, and is also capable of adapting to complex environments such as high cold and high heat regions. The China Electric Power Research Institute has conducted type tests and verified that the equipment has reached industry-leading level in terms of safety and reliability, providing a feasible core technological path for the electrification and digitalization of power construction equipment in the future.
