State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Supports Families in New Economic Sectors with Public Welfare Summer Camp

On July 7, the "Twinkling Stars" public welfare summer camp warmly opened in Jinshan Community, Cixi City, designed to "light up" the lives of children from families working in emerging service sectors. Young volunteers from State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power welcomed a group of children whose parents work in delivery, courier, and other new economy jobs, bringing care and companionship from society to this special group within the community.

With the rise of the urban service economy, many delivery and takeaway workers struggle to care for their children during the summer due to demanding work schedules. These families often face challenges such as children being left at home, depending on takeout meals, or spending excessive time on screens. To address this social issue, State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power, in collaboration with the Cixi Qian Haijun Volunteer Service Center, launched this summer camp to provide meaningful engagement and care.

Twelve-year-old Dai Tianyu is one of the camp participants. This is his third year attending. "My father is a delivery driver. He works hard in all kinds of weather. I feel sorry for him," said Dai. "This is my third time joining the summer camp. There are teachers and older brothers and sisters here, so my parents don’t have to worry about me. I’ve learned new things, made friends, and I can share it all with my parents when I get home!"

Beyond academic tutoring, the camp also includes sessions on power science education and other practical skills, upgrading from basic childcare into a well-rounded growth platform. "Passing on knowledge, skills, and warmth to the next generation is a meaningful mission," said Qian Haijun.

The "Twinkling Stars" public welfare project was initiated by Qian Haijun, an employee of State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power and a recognized "Model of the Times." It is dedicated to building a comprehensive growth platform for children and youth by integrating moral education, scientific learning, social practice, educational support, and emotional care. Over the past ten years, the project has engaged more than 800 volunteers and launched signature activities such as "Tibetan Kids Seeking the Sea · A Home in Zhejiang." It has extended its support to regions like Renbu (Tibet), Dunhua (Jilin), and Nujiang (Yunnan), benefiting over 2,000 children annually since its inception in 2015.

The ongoing summer camp is also an innovative example of State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power’s “public + public welfare” community service model, delivering care and warmth to migrant workers and practitioners in new economic sectors. Through community service stations, model worker service points, and cross-sector cooperation with local governments and the Qian Haijun Volunteer Service Center, the program offers more precise, accessible services to diverse community groups—supporting improved grassroots governance.(Text by Shi Peiwen)
