At eight o'clock on September 21, the 7th China (Tonglu) Fuchun River Crossing Challenge began with the crack of the starting gun, as more than 3,300 swimming enthusiasts from across the country gathered on the banks of the Fuchun River. Cutting through the waves with speed and passion, participants added a lively splash of energy to the picturesque Tonglu.
This year's competition featured two events: the 1,600-meter "Scenic Swim Along the Fuchun River" and the competitive 800-meter "River Crossing Challenge" for men and women. Professional athletes and amateur swimmers alike took to the water. Scenic Swim participants started from the Daqishan Road Waterfront Platform, gracefully drifting downstream amid the serene landscape of verdant mountains and crystal-clear waters. River Crossing competitors, on the other hand, set off from the Dongmen Pier, fighting against the current over 800 meters in a test of technique, stamina, and navigation – making for an especially intense contest.
Now in its sixth year, the Fuchun River Crossing Challenge has grown into a signature sporting event for Tonglu, serving as a showcase for the city's unique character and a driver of culture–tourism integration.
Looking ahead, Tonglu will continue to use sporting events as a bridge to further explore the integrated "sports + cultural tourism" development model. Alongside the Fuchun River Crossing Challenge, it will also host high-quality events such as the half marathon to enhance its reputation of "China's Most Beautiful County · Charming Tonglu," and attract more visitors, investors, and entrepreneurs. With sports as a catalyst, Tonglu aims to inject new momentum into its development.
