Recently, the IEEE international standard P1945.2, “Standard for Internet of Things (IoT) Edge Computing on Unmanned Aircraft Systems—Requirements of Computational Power and Hardware Configuration for Power Grid Inspection,” led by the State Grid Jiangxi Electric Power Research Institute, has been officially approved for development. This marks the institute’s first international standard initiated in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles.

This standard focuses on the edge computing capabilities of power grid inspection UAVs. It aims to enhance the accuracy and safety of UAVs in autonomous inspections, target recognition, obstacle avoidance capabilities, and defect detection by specifying technical indicators such as computational power requirements, hardware configuration, functional performance, physical parameters, power consumption, and environmental adaptability. The standard will promote the standardized development of device integration, real-time data processing, and recognition-related applications.

The application of edge computing technology in power grid inspection UAVs can significantly improve the efficiency and safety of inspection operations, meeting the stability requirements of sustained large-scale applications. This standard is not only applicable to specialized power grid inspection UAVs and related edge computing equipment but also holds guiding significance for technological applications in future scenarios such as intelligent inspections at new energy stations and joint cross-regional power grid inspections.
