75-Day Intensive Effort: Henan Province’s First Large-Scale Comprehensive Technical Renovation Project at Converter Station Completed

On November 25, the Unit I section of the Lingbao Back-to-Back Converter Station successfully entered the live debugging phase, marking the completion of construction for the first large-scale, comprehensive technical renovation project at a converter station in Henan Province.

The Lingbao Converter Station consists of two independent stations, Unit I and Unit II, with rated transmission capacities of 360 MW and 750 MW respectively. The Unit I equipment was officially put into commercial operation in July 2005 and has been in service for 21 years. To better ensure the reliability of the power grid, comprehensive upgrades were necessary for the Unit I equipment.

The renovation work, conducted from September 11 to November 24, involved 18 major technical upgrade and overhaul tasks, including the replacements of DC control and protection systems and AC circuit breakers. This project also marked the first large-scale, comprehensive technical renovation of a converter station undertaken by the State Grid Henan Electric Power Company.

"A comprehensive technical renovation involves tasks such as dismantling old equipment, installing new equipment, laying cables, and debugging systems. The workload was equivalent to twice that of a new construction project, yet the construction period was only 75 days, further impacted by continuous rainy weather in September and October. The schedule was extremely tight, and the tasks were immensely challenging," explained Dai Qingchao, deputy project manager of the Unit I Comprehensive Technical Renovation at the Lingbao Station, Henan Power Transmission and Transformation Co., Ltd.

Henan Power Transmission and Transformation Co., Ltd. meticulously organized and planned the project, assembling a professional team of experienced personnel and establishing a technical expert group to collectively tackle technical challenges. The company deployed 580 management and professional staff, 35 vehicles and machinery, and over 170 instruments and meters, ensuring the renovation progressed smoothly according to the milestone plan.

"Following the comprehensive renovation, the key equipment in Unit I of the Lingbao Converter Station will achieve a complete technological upgrade. This will entirely eliminate risks associated with aging equipment, more effectively ensure the stability of the Northwest-Central China grid interconnection, and inject stronger momentum into the economic development of the Central China region," said Dai Qingchao.
