Wuxi Incentivizes Midday EV Charging to Boost Green Energy Absorption

During the 2026 May Day holiday, 135 charging stations across Wuxi offered discounts on charging service fees to encourage new energy vehicle (NEV) owners to charge their cars during the peak hours of photovoltaic (PV) power generation, effectively increasing the local absorption of green electricity.
Green electricity is primarily generated from clean energy sources such as solar and wind power. To promote the real-time utilization of renewable energy, the State Grid Wuxi Power Supply Company, in collaboration with various charging operators, reduced charging service fees between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to attract EV owners. This timeframe coincides with the peak hours of PV power generation, helping to utilize green electricity more efficiently.
"By choosing to charge during the discounted period, EV owners can save more than 16% on charging costs. For a 40 kWh charge, the average saving per vehicle is about 8 yuan," said Li Xiangchao, deputy director of the Marketing Department at the State Grid Wuxi Power Supply Company.
Statistics show that during the May Day holiday, over 50,000 NEVs actively opted to charge during the discounted hours. This initiative not only reduced charging costs for car owners but also promoted the highly efficient local absorption of renewable energy in the region.
