Recently, the 2026 Belt and Road · Bright Journey Mongolia Campaign was held in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, providing cataract screening for local residents. A total of 385 Mongolian patients with cataracts received on-site screening. Those eligible for surgery will enter China via Erenhot in May to receive sight-restoring treatment.
The Red Cross societies of China and Mongolia worked in close coordination. Medical experts conducted systematic examinations, including visual acuity tests, intraocular pressure checks and ophthalmic examinations. They accurately assessed patients’ eye conditions and selected eligible recipients for free surgical assistance.

The Belt and Road · Bright Journey Mongolia Campaign is a flagship transnational humanitarian cooperation project jointly carried out by the Red Cross Society of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China, and the Mongolian Red Cross Society. It aligns with the national Belt and Road Initiative and the “1571” work arrangement of the Party Committee of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Through cross-border cataract screening and targeted medical assistance, the project effectively addresses the difficulties faced by patients with eye diseases from underprivileged families in Mongolia. Since 2019, the campaign has performed 645 free sight-restoring surgeries for Mongolian patients. It serves as a vivid embodiment of humanitarian cooperation between China and Mongolia, as well as a heartwarming showcase of people-to-people bonds under the Belt and Road Initiative.
Going forward, the Red Cross societies of China and Mongolia will use this campaign as a link to further enrich cross-border humanitarian cooperation. By building a bridge of international friendship through humanitarian efforts, both sides will add warmth and momentum to advancing the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
