Second International Training Program on Robot-Assisted Urological Surgery Opens in Xi'an

On September 6, the Second International Training Program on Robot-Assisted Urological Surgery opened in Xi'an. Hosted by the Shaanxi International Medical Exchange Promotion Association and organized by the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), the program brings together 20 licensed physicians from nine countries—including Italy, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Côte d'Ivoire, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Cambodia—who are participating in systematic, in-person training. This initiative serves as a flagship academic program, highlighting China's commitment to medical science and technology assistance for developing countries and the deepening of international medical cooperation.

The training follows a comprehensive curriculum comprising theoretical instruction, simulation training, animal experiments, clinical observation, and practical assessment. It provides specialized instruction on the operation of surgical robotic systems, hands-on practice for both standard and complex urological procedures, and protocols and standards for minimally invasive techniques. The program is designed to significantly improve the robotic surgical proficiency and clinical diagnostic and treatment capabilities of physicians from participating developing nations.

As a science and technology assistance project receiving priority support from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the training program serves as a high-level, cross-border platform for academic exchange. It not only facilitates the transfer of China's advanced minimally invasive medical technologies, clinical expertise, and approaches to developing medical specialties, but also establishes a stable, long-term international medical cooperation network. By helping to bridge the gap in access to advanced minimally invasive medical technologies in developing countries, the program promotes the global standardization and harmonization of minimally invasive urological techniques, contributing China's expertise to universal healthcare access and coordinated progress in global health.
