The "Taste of Nanchang Through Foreign Eyes" hotel tasting event, a key sub-event of the 2026 Nanchang Food Season, has wrapped up. Twelve expats based in Nanchang formed six two-person teams and visited six five-star hotels in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, over six days on a staggered schedule, immersing themselves in the city's Gan cuisine culture from an international perspective.
Under the theme "See Hongcheng Through Global Eyes, Taste Nanchang in a Hundred Flavors," the event followed a "one hotel, one flavor; one hotel, one theme; no duplicates across the board" principle. Each hotel specially prepared three distinct Nanchang specialty dishes, spanning breakfast favorites, main courses, late-night hits, street snacks, homestyle dishes and creative desserts.
From the morning aroma of Nanchang rice noodles and clay-pot soup to the authentic flavors of Yuzhang in stir-fried Artemisia selengensis with cured meat; from the fresh, spicy flavors of rice noodles with crab claws to the wok-fried aromas of pig's blood rice noodles and stir-fried rice noodles, the six tasting routes connected Nanchang's history and culture, Poyang Lake ecology and bustling street life, offering a multidimensional interpretation of the "fresh, spicy, savory, aromatic and mellow" character of Gan cuisine.
Documentary-style short videos were shot throughout the event. Through authentic taste experiences and colloquial storytelling, the expats captured the flavors of Nanchang and helped establish a dedicated cultural tourism brand, "Taste of Nanchang Through Foreign Eyes." Shared across multiple platforms, the content brought Nanchang's local cuisine to a wider audience in a more vivid and international way, effectively enhancing the recognition and appeal of Gan cuisine and injecting new vitality into efforts to take Nanchang flavors beyond the region and onto the national and international stage.
