Special event of Chinese Valentine's Day kicked off in Summer Palace

On the evening of August 7, 'I'm waiting for you at Summer Palace' – the special event of Chinese Valentine's Day kicked off in the Summer Palace. Over 700 Beijing role models, newlyweds, the most beautiful family representatives, and more than 70 overseas journalists from nearly 40 media companies in 33 countries and regions visited the Summer Palace and experienced the traditional culture of Chinese Valentine's Day.

Chinese Valentine's Day, or the Qixi Festival, originated from the beautiful legend in the ancient China, "the Weaver Girl and the Cowherd". It is a traditional festival in China. This year's Beijing Qixi Cultural Activity is themed on 'A City Full of Love, and a Date with Happiness', and has provided a series of cultural activities for the public.  'I'm waiting for you at Summer Palace' is one of the highlights. In the Summer Palace, celebrating traditional Chinese Valentine's Day in traditional ways could make the general public experience the Chinese Valentine's Day culture.

Representatives and overseas journalists witnessed the opening ceremony and the light up event of 'I'm waiting for you at Summer Palace' large-scale culture and arts project of Chinese Valentine's Day. Participants shouted out the theme slogan, "I'm waiting for you at Summer Palace", and lit the festive lantern to launch the event. After that, the whole Summer Palace was illuminated by the lights and lanterns. The lights one both sides of the Seventeen-Arch Bridge were lit up, forming a dreamlike "magpie bridge" over the river. After the light up event, traditional operas including Peony Pavilion, The Butterfly Lovers, and The Weaver Girl and the Cowherd were provided to the audience.
