A Boat Racing on Taiyuan Fenhe River to Celebrate Dragon Boat Festival

From June 18 to 22, the 2023 Taiyuan Fenhe River Dragon Boat Racing was held at the Taiyuan Aquatic Sports Centre. The competition attracts high-level teams from Beijing, Shandong, Fujian and other provinces and cities, as well as some cities in Shanxi province. Besides, there are also teams from some government authorities, enterprises and institutions, sports clubs, and universities in Taiyuan.

To enrich the content of this event, the dragon boat racing this year has also added areas for display and experience. In the display area, some newly introduced equipment such as dragon boats, rowing boats and kayaks are highlighted. In the experience area, people can gain firsthand experience of sailing boats, kayaks, dragon boats and others, so as to gain a deeper understanding of water sports, learn more about traditional culture and inherit the spirit of sportsmanship.

Mr. Yang, a native of Taiyuan, is a cycling enthusiast. He often rides bike along the Fenhe River and has witnessed the improvement of the ecological environment there. On the morning of June 21, he came to the bank of the Fenhe River to watch the dragon boat racing. He said that Taiyuan has four distinct seasons and the Fenhe River is crystal clear, which provide the perfect condition for training in water sports such as rowing and dragon boating, and the beautiful scenery also makes the Fenhe River Park a shining pearl on the Loess Plateau.

Dragon boat racing is a traditional sport in China, with a long history of over 2,000 years. With its unique charm, the Taiyuan Fenhe River Dragon Boat Racing has become one of the featured sports event of Taiyuan city. While enriching the cultural life of Taiyuan people, dragon boat races could further enhance and promote the long-lasting history and culture of Taiyuan city and showcase the splendid city image.
