Located in Xiangfen County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province, the Taosi site is renowned as one of the early four major city ruins of China, featuring city ruins in unprecedented scale, cemeteries in orderly layout, and the world's earliest observatory. A large number of archaeological discoveries show that the Taosi site remains of great academic significance in restoring ancient Chinese society and exploring the origin of Chinese civilization. According to research, Taosi already formed its early state 4,300 years ago.
Bicun site, a city standing along the Yellow River for 4,000 years

Located in Xing County, Lyuliang City, Shanxi Province, the Bicun site enjoys a history spanning over 4,000 years. It was selected as one of the top ten new archaeological discoveries in China in 2022. At present, it stands as the largest and the best-preserved prehistoric stone city at the mouth of the Yellow River on the Shanxi-Shaanxi plateau, preliminarily revealing the changes in Bicun's prehistoric settlements and the lives of ancestors in the late Longshan period. As a significant symbol of the Yellow River culture, it holds vital importance for unfolding the historical development of Chinese civilization.
