6th Leshan Giant Buddha Tourism and Culture Festival Kicks off

On November 8th, the 6th Leshan Giant Buddha Tourism and Culture Festival and the Cultural and Tourism Event Marking the 1310th Anniversary of the Commencement of Construction for Leshan Giant Buddha were launched at the Leshan Giant Buddha Cultural Square.

During the launching ceremony, the Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area Administration Committee announced the "Leshan Giant Buddha Global Protection Initiative," aimed at better protecting the world heritage site and increasing awareness of world heritage among the public.

At the award ceremony for invited guardians and guardian groups of the Leshan Giant Buddha, the Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area officially awarded the title of "Leshan Giant Buddha Guardian" to Liu Chuanjian, hero Captain of Civil Aviation Administration of China, and others, and presented them with certificates of honor.

Additionally, the Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area signed cooperative agreements with the Royal Palace of Godollo in Hungary, the Wat Phu Temple in Laos, and the research institutes for Dunhuang, Yungang, Longmen Grottoes, Dazu Rock Carvings, and Sichuan Cultural Relics and Archaeology to jointly promote the protection, restoration, and utilization of grotto cultural relics.

The Leshan Giant Buddha, also known as Lingyun Giant Buddha, is located on the eastern bank of the Dadu River, Qingyi River, and Min River in Leshan City, Sichuan Province, China, adjacent to the Lingyun Temple. It is a seated statue of Maitreya Buddha, standing at a height of 71 meters, and is the largest cliff-carved statue in China.
