There are four major deserts in Inner Mongolia: Badain Jaran, Tengger, Ulaanbuh and Kubuqi. Among them, the Kubuqi Desert in Jungar Banner accounts for 7.4 percent of the total area, whose eastern end extends into Jungar Banner for approximately 900 km2, accounting for 11.7 percent of the total land area. The Ulaanbulag State-owned Forest Farm in Jungar Banner is an oasis created in this desert. You may find it incredible that there was once a barren desert with wind howling, yet now it becomes luxuriant. As fight against desertification yields fruits, vegetation coverage has increased from the 10.5 percent to 65 percent, and generations of Jungar people have made unremitting efforts for a more enabling home.

In the Ulaanbulag State-owned Forest Farm, vegetation is neatly arranged along the highway through the desert. Driving on the highway, you can see everything is green. Now 65 percent of this desert has become an oasis.

Since 2012, the governance method of the Kubuqi Desert has transformed from simply controlling desertification to simultaneously promoting ecological progress and economic development. Stricken by desertification, the people in the Kubuqi Desert used their brains to develop forest and desert resources, creating magnificent legends.

"In the next step, we will focus on wind prevention, sand controlling and water and soil loss. With the goal of building a beautiful Jungar Banner with a favorable environment, we will facilitate ecological governance and protection of forests, grasslands, wetlands and deserts, restore degraded forests and grasslands, and make due contributions to building a strong ecological security barrier in the north of the motherland," Said Fu Guoqiang, Party Secretary and Director of the Jungar Banner Forestry and Grassland Bureau.
