Shanghai's Public Charging Pile Coverage in Townships Exceeds 99%

In recent years, Shanghai has been vigorously promoting new energy vehicles and advancing the construction of charging infrastructure. Data disclosed by the State Grid Shanghai Electric Power Company shows that in 2023, the electricity consumption for charging electric vehicles in Shanghai reached 3.427 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 90%; the maximum charging load reached 1.4304 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 32.43%. Currently, the coverage rate of public charging piles in townships in Shanghai exceeds 99%.

According to statistics, by the end of 2023, Shanghai had 196,000 public charging piles, and 518,100 households had applied for personal charging pile installations.

Wu Dan, the head of the Intelligent Electricity Use Division of the State Grid Shanghai Electric Power Marketing Department, introduced: "We will continue to ensure the power supply service of Shanghai's charging facilities, intensify efforts to carry out intelligent and orderly charging of new energy vehicles and vehicle-grid integration interaction, build a bidirectional interactive system of information flow and energy flow between new energy vehicles and the power supply network, effectively utilize the flexibility of power batteries, and provide important support for the efficient and economic operation of the new power system."
