2024 Fourth Tonglu Shengxianli Ironman Triathlon Kicks Off

On the morning of April 21, the "Sports in Shengxianli - Run for Common Prosperity" 2024 Fourth Tonglu Shengxianli Ironman Triathlon commenced with a gunshot in Hecun Township, Tonglu County, Hangzhou City. Over 500 athletes from China and beyond participated in the event.

Race Scene

The event consists of three segments: swimming at Zhuxi Paradise, cycling through mountainous canyons, and running along greenways. Various age groups, ranging from 18 to 69 years old, are set up.

At eight o'clock on the race day, athletes dashed off one by one on hearing the shot of the starting pistol, galloping through the verdant hills and clear waters of Shengxianli. Every step offers breathtaking scenery.

This competition attracted many renowned athletes such as Benjamin David Deady, a seasoned champion in Chinese Ironman Triathlon, and Yu Shujun, the 2018 Chinese Triathlon League Women's Champion. Benjamin once again showcased remarkable performance in this competition, being the first to cross the finish line with a time of 1:50:16.

"This is my second time competing in Shengxianli. Today's running segment took place entirely on the greenways, offering me the chance to appreciate the lush surroundings. The excellent air quality in Hecun made it effortless for me to reach the finish line," Benjamin shared, praising the event's environment.

It is reported that the Shengxianli Ironman Triathlon has now completed four editions, evolving from a half-ironman triathlon to an Olympic-distance triathlon, and from a local fitness initiative to a nationally recognized triathlon event. It is growing in scale each year, attracting increasingly skilled athletes. 

This year, the Shengxianli Ironman Triathlon was accredited as a C-level event by the China Triathlon Sports Association for the first time, extending its influence beyond the Yangtze River Delta and even internationally. (Text/Photo by Zhou Yuting and Pi Yunwei).
