Jiyuan, Henan: Smart Power Simplifies Farm Irrigation

Recently, at a powered well in the high-standard farmland of Yanying Village, Kejing Town, Jiyuan City, Henan Province, villagers have been using their smartphones to scan QR codes to access electricity for irrigation. “I just scan the code to power up the water. Electricity usage and fees are clear, and any unused prepaid balance is automatically refunded. Smart power has made irrigation much easier and more convenient,” said villager Wei Yunsheng.

In recent years, Jiyuan’s farmland wells operated through a card-swiping system. Villagers had to prepay at service centers or village committees, then swipe their cards in the fields to pump water. During droughts, the limited number of costly card terminals often caused long queues, leading to inefficiencies in field management.

To address these challenges, State Grid Jiyuan Power Supply Company has installed smart QR code irrigation terminals at selected wells in Kejing Town. Utilizing IoT and cloud platform technology, the new system allows multiple users to independently scan codes, make payments, and use electricity simultaneously through a single terminal. After use, the system automatically refunds any unused prepaid balance to users' mobile phones in real-time, with transparent pricing and billing. This has greatly improved the overall user experience.

The cloud-based management platform also supports terminal monitoring, operational oversight, transaction queries, and report generation. It ensures the secure and stable operation of the terminals, while automated reports help track irrigation usage and assist village committees in managing overall electricity consumption.

Looking forward, the company plans to expand the smart terminal network to further improve the convenience of irrigation, ultimately providing high-quality power services to ensure abundant harvests and efficient agricultural development.
