State Grid Powers Hangzhou's World Biosphere Reserve Congress with Green Energy

On September 25, the 5th World Biosphere Reserve Congress concluded in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. With its active exploration and practices in green electricity, State Grid once again set an example for green and low-carbon transformation for large-scale international events.

State Grid Zhejiang Presents Green Electricity Certificates to Congress Organizer

Ahead of the congress, Shi Tujia, a "zero-carbon engineer" from State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company, presented a green electricity certificate to Ni Xiaohua, a representative of the congress organizer. As the largest and most inclusive international conference under UNESCO's "Man and the Biosphere Programme", this was the first time the congress was held in China and the Asia-Pacific region, with the new requirement of achieving a "zero-carbon event". The conference was expected to consume about 78,200 kilowatt-hours of electricity. With the support of State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company, the organizer purchased 79 domestic green electricity certificates for 2025—equivalent to 79,000 kilowatt-hours of green power—ensuring a 100% green electricity supply for the entire event.

Meanwhile, at the 4th Global Digital Trade Expo on September 25, State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company introduced an innovative "dual guarantee" model that combined green certificate transactions with self-owned green power. By purchasing 1,000 green electricity certificates, the expo achieved 100% green electricity supply throughout its duration, creating a truly "zero-carbon expo". This initiative is expected to reduce carbon emissions by about 700 tons, equivalent to the environmental benefit of planting 38,000 trees. In addition, the venue adopted building-integrated photovoltaic technology, with cadmium telluride power-generating glass installed on the roof to continuously generate clean energy, providing strong support for the green exhibition.

From the World Biosphere Reserve Congress to the Global Digital Trade Expo, State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company has demonstrated its sense of responsibility and commitment through concrete actions, leading more cities and industries towards a sustainable and low-carbon future. (By Zhu Xiaowei)
