The hospital has long regarded discipline development as the core driver of high-quality development. It has strategically aligned services around distinctive specialty areas, prioritizing three core clinical brands—oncology, digestive diseases, and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases—to build a well-structured, complementary cluster of disciplines. The hospital currently has six provincial-level key disciplines and 14 municipal-level key disciplines. Two national-level key discipline development projects are progressing steadily and have achieved phased construction results. At the same time, the hospital has established high-standard Chest Pain, Stroke, and Trauma Centers, and its critical care capabilities and comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for difficult diseases rank among the best in Northwest China. The hospital is also advancing digital and smart healthcare initiatives, leveraging intelligent technologies to improve diagnostic and treatment quality.
In conventional radiotherapy, the hospital is equipped with top-tier Varian and Elekta linear accelerators and helical tomotherapy systems, and routinely carries out cutting-edge techniques such as image-guided radiotherapy, stereotactic radiotherapy, three-dimensional afterloading brachytherapy, and lattice radiotherapy. Supported by refined and personalized treatment plans, these technologies are applied across clinical scenarios, including early-stage curative treatment, late-stage palliative care, and treatment of difficult tumors.

In internal medicine, critical care technologies such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), artificial liver support systems (ALSS), and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) are well established in clinical practice. As the birthplace of heavy-ion technology in China, the hospital's Heavy Ion Center has established a coordinated dual-center model linking Wuwei and Lanzhou and has treated more than 2,800 patients from across China and abroad. Therapeutic efficacy for certain diseases has exceeded international standards in the same field.
As a leading medical institution in the ancient Silk Road region, Gansu Wuwei Tumor Hospital is breaking down technological barriers and pioneering new diagnostic and treatment paradigms through its flagship heavy-ion technology and multidisciplinary innovations.
