The first round of the 2026 China Kart Endurance Championship (CKEC) took place on May 23 at the Conghua International Circuit in Guangzhou. As China's first national-level kart endurance event, the opening round featured two categories: the eight-hour S4T:CF 270cc class and the four-hour GCIC Super League 200cc class, attracting dozens of teams and more than 150 drivers from across the country.

Both categories adopted an "arrive-and-drive" format, with standardized karts provided by the organizers, eliminating the need for participants to bring their own vehicles. This arrangement is designed to lower the barriers to entry, allowing experienced teams and amateur enthusiasts new to endurance racing to compete on an equal footing, focusing on team strategy, pit-stop coordination, and race pace management.

The 2026 season introduced noticeable changes to the race format. The traditional eight-hour endurance class continues to test team strategy and driver stamina, while the newly established four-hour 200cc class is positioned as an entry-level endurance race, using karts identical to those found at recreational karting tracks, making it easier for amateur enthusiasts to form teams and participate.

A first-time endurance racer said that he used to feel endurance racing was out of reach, but the new category allowed him and a few friends to form a team and join the race, experiencing the professional track atmosphere and the joy of teamwork.

The event also served as an example of Conghua District's efforts to promote the integrated development of "sports, culture, tourism and industry." According to local statistics, a large number of teams and their families from outside Guangdong Province arrived in Conghua early for track familiarization sessions, and many participants stayed after the race to enjoy hot springs, homestays, local rural cuisine, and nearby scenic spots, achieving the goal of "one race driving one family trip." Local authorities said this is a concrete implementation of the Outline for Building a Leading Sports Nation and Guangzhou's Sports Power City Development Plan (2024-2035), using high-level events to attract visitors and boost sports consumption and the local economy.

As the last kart crossed the finish line after nightfall, the CKEC season opener concluded successfully. It is reported that the second round of the 2026 season is scheduled for June 13–14 at the Conghua International Circuit in Guangzhou. (Text/Photos by Zhu Xiao and event organizer)
