Screen Spy Drama Honors Revolutionary Struggles: Wuhu's The Hidden Gambit Carves a New Path for Red Cultural Tourism

The red short drama The Hidden Gambit premiered nationwide at Wuhu Livable Expo Center on August 12. Supported by authorities such as the Anhui Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and the Publicity Department of the CPC Wuhu Municipal Committee, officials from the provincial and municipal publicity and cultural tourism authorities, production representatives and the creative team jointly kicked off its premiere and full-platform release ceremony.

The series draws on authentic local accounts of Wuhu's underground intelligence work during the 1949 Crossing the Yangtze River Campaign. It tracks undercover agent Jiang Hui, who adopts a fake identity to steal critical river defense blueprints at great personal risk. Avoiding formulaic hero archetypes, the show references local historical archives to portray underground workers' willingness to sacrifice their lives for the revolutionary cause. Historical storytelling remains the core. Digital technology merely reconstructs Republican-era backdrops, with flashy effects kept minimal to preserve authentic historical gravitas.

The Hidden Gambit is now streaming on CCTV Video, Hongguo Short Drama, Douyin and other platforms. The project introduces an innovative online-offline integrated cultural tourism model. An MR spy experience hall, located at the historic Daqing Prison site in Wuhu Ancient City, will open to the public this October. It forms a complete experience loop: viewers learn revolutionary history online via episodes, then step into real historical spaces for immersive offline visits.

This project revitalizes red heritage sites in the ancient city and offers a replicable model for innovative integrated local red cultural tourism.
