Overseas Promotion Event for Local Cuisine Held in Nantong

"Tastes of Nantong", an event focusing on the overseas promotion of local cuisine, was held on March 16 in Hai'an, a county-level city administered by Nantong City, eastern China's Jiangsu Province. Organized by the United Front Work Department of the CPC Nantong Municipal Committee (Overseas Chinese Affairs Office), the Publicity Department of the CPC Nantong Municipal Committee, and Nantong Municipal Commerce Bureau. The event is expected to be a window to display the charm of Nantong as a city nourished by both rivers and the sea. It is also an important step forward of Nantong on its way to revive time-honored restaurants and boost the high-quality development of the restaurant industry.

Gao Hongyu, director of Nantong Municipal Commerce Bureau, said that he hopes that overseas Chinese entrepreneurs and leaders could continue to contribute to the overseas promotion of Nantong cuisine, participate actively in the establishment of promotion platforms, so that more Nantong cuisine and time-honored restaurants here could be known by foreigners and they could have a better understanding about Nantong via these delicious specialties.

"In recent years, Nantong has made great effort in the overseas promotion of local cuisine to benefit Chinese people abroad. One training base, seven practical bases and two promotion bases have been established, which played significant roles in the overseas development of Nantong cuisine," said Wang Xiaohong, member of Standing Committee of the CPC Nantong Municipal Committee and director of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Nantong Municipal Committee. The purpose of this event is to promote overseas development of Chinese cuisine via the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and rich cultural resources of Nantong, to help Chinese cuisine build international fame and to promote traditional Chinese food culture to more foreign friends, she added.
