Mao County is located in the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, northwest of Sichuan Province, on the southeastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It is in the arid valley region of the upper reaches of the Minjiang and Fujiang rivers, and is the largest core settlement of the Qiang ethnic group and a core protection area for Qiang culture in China, with unique ethnic customs and rich cultural heritage.
