As summer winds arrive, dragon boats take to the waves. The 2026 Conghua Dragon Boat Month series has officially kicked off in Guangzhou's Conghua District, with the main competition scheduled for June 28. Nearly 40 teams have already signed up and are preparing for the event. Meanwhile, multiple local cultural tourism enterprises have launched a range of dragon boat-themed offerings — including accommodation packages, specialty dining, intangible cultural heritage (ICH) handicrafts, and on-water experiences — creating an immersive holiday experience for visitors.
Themed Accommodation
Guangzhou Yiquanwan Hot Spring Hotel, leveraging the area's natural geothermal hot spring resources, has introduced two exclusive dragon boat-themed hot spring stay packages. These include signature meals, all-day hot spring access, family activities, and more, blending wellness tourism with festive dragon boat culture. Conghua Jinjiang Metropolo Hotel, focusing on the dragon boat competition, offers a festive banquet featuring local specialties such as Lütian Braised Pork and Liuxi Bighead Fish, bringing authentic local flavors to the race-day excitement.
Local Cuisine
Beyond accommodation and dining, ICH experiences are a major highlight of this year's Dragon Boat Month. Shuifangge Restaurant, under Guangzhou Zhujiang Nanping Investment Development Co., has created a dragon boat-themed wellness meal in line with summer traditions and health principles. The restaurant also hosts a "Dragon Boat Bamboo Weaving" ICH handicraft workshop at Nanping Craft Studio, making traditional culture tangible, enjoyable, and hands-on. Guangzhou Lipu Hot Spring Hotel offers sachet DIY and decoupage bag crafting activities, perfect for families looking to celebrate the festive season with meaningful rituals.
Intangible Cultural Heritage: Dragon Boat Bamboo Weaving Workshop
Notably, this year's Dragon Boat Month introduces an immersive water activity. Guangdong Hot Spring Hotel now offers a dragon boat trial experience, allowing visitors to row a real dragon boat themselves. No longer just spectators, participants can feel the thrill and passion of traditional dragon boat racing up close.
On-Water Experience
In addition, Conghua District is collaborating with Guangdong China Youth Travel Service Co., Ltd. and other quality travel agencies to launch several dragon boat-themed tour routes. These integrate race viewing, on-water experiences, hot spring wellness, ICH crafts, and local cuisine, catering to family trips, group travel, and leisure getaways.
Dragon Boat Training
As June unfolds, the spectacular dragon boat races await. Conghua District warmly invites visitors and residents to gather in Conghua for this lively dragon boat festival — an immersive journey into Lingnan folk culture and a unique summer travel experience.
