Huanggang, Hubei: “Full-Power” Support Ensures Summer Electricity Supply

ChinaNews|Published:2026-06-23 17:53:45

This summer, the peak electricity load in Huanggang, Hubei, is projected to reach 4.3 million kilowatts. In response to this summer’s power supply and demand situation, State Grid Huanggang Power Supply Company is accelerating the construction of major power grid projects to strengthen its power supply capacity.
On June 17, at the construction site of the new 220 kV substation in Huangzhou Chemical Industrial Park, crews were working at full capacity to advance the project timeline.
Since the beginning of this year, State Grid Huanggang Power Supply Company has actively implemented plans to stabilize growth and expand investment. Adopting a moderately forward-looking approach to power development, the company has planned key projects for the summer peak demand period in advance. Focusing on key areas, major projects, and electricity needs related to people’s livelihoods, the company has continuously addressed weak links in the distribution network and optimized the grid structure. A number of power grid projects supporting the development of new quality productive forces and serving rural revitalization are being implemented in an orderly manner.

These projects will effectively facilitate the integration of wind power, photovoltaic power, and other forms of new energy, further optimize the regional grid structure, enhance grid operation safety and power supply reliability, and provide strong power support for Huanggang’s high-quality economic and social development.

In the first half of this year, the company accelerated the in-depth application of artificial intelligence in the power grid sector. Intelligent devices, including inspection robots and high-definition cameras, operate 24/7 across substations in Huanggang, with real-time data transmitted to an intelligent inspection management platform. O&M personnel use the returned data to accurately track equipment defects and promptly address safety hazards such as bird nests and foreign objects.
At the same time, 24-hour visual monitoring has been implemented for extra-high voltage and ultra-high voltage transmission lines. By integrating meteorological and power data, the company has strengthened early warnings for extreme weather and improved the accuracy of load forecasting, providing strong support for the safe operation of the power grid.
