As Henan has entered its main flood season, heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds, and short-duration severe convective weather have become frequent. Soil moisture levels have continued to rise, sharply increasing the risks of erosion and inundation of power grid equipment along rivers and in low-lying areas. Pressure has continued to increase on flood prevention, power supply protection, and electricity services for residents. Focusing on the prevention and control of power safety risks during the flood season, State Grid Kaifeng Power Supply Company has launched a comprehensive special inspection and rectification campaign targeting flood-control hazards in the power grid.
The special inspection adopts an approach combining blanket area-wide inspections with targeted defect elimination. Staff conduct item-by-item inspections of power poles and towers, guy wires, line equipment, and drainage systems in high-risk locations, including areas along rivers, low-lying distribution transformer service areas, and flood-prone farmland sections. They carefully check for typical flood-season hazards such as pole and tower foundation settlement, slope collapse, and equipment water seepage. Using professional testing equipment, including infrared thermometers, they carry out comprehensive live-line inspections of power lines and distribution transformer service areas, establish hazard registers, and implement immediate rectification upon discovery.
Meanwhile, staff members have visited subdistricts and villages to carry out public education campaigns on electrical safety during the flood season, providing residents with safety knowledge on how to avoid risks during power outages in flood conditions and how to prevent electric shock and leakage hazards.
State Grid Kaifeng Power Supply Company has also completed inventory checks and replenishment of flood-control emergency supplies. It has fully stocked insulated repair tools, emergency generators, water pumps, flood-control rain gear, and other materials and equipment, and has formed emergency repair teams on 24-hour standby to ensure rapid response and handling in the event of sudden floods or equipment failures.
Moving forward, State Grid Kaifeng Power Supply Company will closely monitor flood-season weather warnings and carry out high-frequency, routine, and targeted inspections and control of key road sections, critical equipment, and high-risk distribution transformer service areas. The company will make every effort to ensure a stable and reliable power supply for industrial and agricultural production and residents’ daily lives throughout the flood season. (By Sun Jingjiang)
