Cultivating Fertile Soil of Mingmen System to Nurture Tree of Human Health and Longevity‌

Dr. Lin Mingxin, a post-80s veteran practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) from the Institute of Basic Theory for Chinese Medicine, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, has dedicated over 16 years to researching the Mingmen system, also known as the Life Gate system. He has innovatively proposed that Mingmen is the "Gate of Life," serving as both the "Gate of Health" and the "Gate of Longevity." The Mingmen system is the engine of life, which is vital for human health and life expansion.

I. A Holistic Advancement‌: From Integrating Diverse Strengths to Reconstructing the System

Based on the unique interpretations of the words "命" (mìng) and "门" (mén) in Shuowen Jiezi, a Chinese dictionary compiled by a Five Classics scholar Xu Shen during the Eastern Han dynasty (25–220 CE), which literally means Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters, and the insights of Chinese linguists, Dr. Lin first proposed that Mingmen originally refers to "the hub through which the natural world regulates the material, energy, and information of the entire world," and that, for humans, Mingmen is "the hub regulating the human body."

Dr. Lin has upgraded the traditional Mingmen theory into the modern Mingmen system, and the system is defined as a complex giant system. The Mingmen system serves as the human body's engine and governs the human body's core activities. It provides theoretical support and practical guidance for understanding Chinese medicine's views on life, disease, diagnosis, treatment, health preservation, and rehabilitation across all dimensions.

II. Deep and Sustained Cultivation: From Theoretical Research to Clinical Practice‌

Dr. Lin upholds the core principle that "All life depends on the sun, and human health and longevity rely on the Mingmen." He skillfully links the abstract Mingmen theory with concrete clinical phenomena, and has proposed the Hypothesis of Carcinogenesis Induced by the Decline of the Life Gate Fire.

To address this, Dr. Lin pioneered the Solar Therapy, a therapy that utilizes the natural Yang Qi to nourish the human body and dispel cold and dampness. This therapy is grounded in the principle of "warming and tonifying the Life Gate Fire." Its core treatment strategies include "Intensifying yang, Dispelling cold, and Eliminating dampness." In practice, the therapy thus activates the body's Yang-generating system through multidimensional, multilevel, and multistage regulation.

Guided by the Hypothesis of Carcinogenesis Induced by the Decline of the Life Gate Fire and the Solar Therapy, Dr. Lin and his research team have focused on clinical studies involving various cancers such as lung cancer, gastric cancer, and sarcoma, achieving remarkable outcomes.

III. A Model of Innovation‌: From Empirical Judgment to Intelligent Empowerment

Guided by the core philosophy of "Embracing Artificial Intelligence to Tell the Story of Traditional Chinese Medicine," Dr. Lin promotes the integration of the Mingmen system with modern technology. His team has systematically analyzed the logical relationships among diseases and syndromes found in classical TCM texts by constructing a Life Gate knowledge graph and employing machine learning and text mining methods. Through this process, they have established a quantifiable TCM knowledge base that supports intelligent recommendations for clinical decision-making and enables visualized tracing of historical medical experience. AI technologies facilitate the intelligent inheritance of TCM theories and provide precise predictive models for evaluating oncology treatment efficacy by analyzing multidimensional patient data, such as tongue manifestations, body temperature, and body weight. In doing so, AI provides robust scientific support for traditional therapeutic principles like "Intensifying yang, Dispelling cold, and Eliminating dampness."

In the field of cancer treatment, the AI-empowered clinical decision system is deeply integrated with the Mingmen system's regulatory mechanism for the cold, damp microenvironment, promising a significant leap from empirical judgment to intelligent guidance.

IV. Integrating Wisdom: From Ancient-Modern Synthesis to East-West Dialogue ‌

Dr. Lin is the chief editor of the scholarly monograph Theoretical Research and Clinical Insights into the Mingmen Doctrine (命门学说理论研究与临床发微). The book has been included in the collections of national libraries in all five UN Security Council, as well as libraries in Belt and Road Initiative partner countries such as Singapore, India, and Thailand. It has also been catalogued in the libraries of world-leading universities such as Harvard, Oxford, and Cambridge. This significantly promotes in-depth dialogue between Eastern and Western medicine, while its guiding philosophy of "fostering understanding through scientific consensus"opens new perspectives for global health governance.

Dr. Lin emphasizes that in the modernization of TCM, it is crucial to articulate traditional theories in modern language—a process he calls "the modernization of TCM discourse." Through continuous innovation in theoretical expression and intercultural communication, he has significantly enhanced the international recognition of the Mingmen system.

By employing vivid, life-based analogies such as mushrooms and soil, sunlight and Mingmen, Dr. Lin enables profound TCM theories to transcend cultural and linguistic boundaries. These metaphors serve as effective bridges linking Eastern and Western cognitive frameworks, showcasing both the unique wisdom of Chinese medicine and the original philosophical insight of Eastern thought. His efforts facilitate global medical exchange and contribute to the mutual learning and shared progress of human civilizations.

V. Fulfilling a Global Mission: From Benefiting China to Serving the World‌

Dr. Lin has applied the achievements of his Mingmen system research to support the Healthy China Initiative. He proposes that it serves as the winning formula in the battle against cancer, as "a strong mindset + a harmonious environment + rational treatment = ultimate victory".

Dr. Lin and his team have integrated the theories on the Mingmen system with clinical practice, and their achievements demonstrate threefold value. By cultivating the fertile ground of the Mingmen system through sustained theoretical and practical exploration, this endeavor pioneers a new pathway for the high-quality global advancement of TCM and contributes Chinese wisdom to global health governance, thereby promoting the vision of a Community of Shared Future for Human Health.
