At around 4:00 p.m., amid lively dragon and lion dances and the rhythmic beat of waist drums, the event opened with an energetic Huayao dance performance. The first race was an internal sprint among three dragon boat teams from Longhui County. The three dragon boats sliced through the waves like arrows released from a bow, with paddlers moving in perfect unison and water spray rising high, drawing waves of cheers from spectators on both banks. Immediately afterward, Longhui County’s Wei Yuan Hometown Team faced Shaoyang County No. 1 Team, champions of the Shaoyang City Dragon Boat Race, in a fierce warm-up race. With seamless coordination and powerful acceleration, Shaoyang County No. 1 Team won by one boat length, drawing thunderous applause from the crowd.
Next, Longhui County’s “Good Morning, Longhui” Team, “Yunshang Huayao” Team, and Shaoyang County No. 1 Team took part in a three-boat race. As the starting drum sounded, the paddles of the three dragon boats flashed across the water, leaving three white trails in their wake. In the end, Shaoyang County No. 1 Team crossed the finish line first, while Longhui County’s “Good Morning, Longhui” Team and “Yunshang Huayao” Team finished second and third, respectively.
