Chongqing Power Grid Load Hits a Record High

ChinaNews|Published:2026-07-16 14:21:10

Since late June, temperatures in Chongqing have been gradually rising. As a result, cooling equipment such as air conditioners has been widely put into use across the city, driving up electricity demand and grid load. At 17:11 on July 14, the centrally dispatched load of the Chongqing power grid reached 30.67 million kilowatts, 390,000 kilowatts higher than the previous record of 30.28 million kilowatts, setting a new record high.
To ensure the safe operation of the Chongqing power grid and reliable power supply for the city, State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Company is closely monitoring weather conditions and load changes while coordinating efforts in load forecasting, grid dispatching, and equipment operation and maintenance.

To ensure reliable power supply, State Grid Chongqing Electric Power continues to leverage medium- and long-term inter-provincial power purchases as a cornerstone for summer peak power supply. The company conducts daily coordination meetings, weekly consultations, and monthly planning to ensure that power transmission channels bringing external electricity into Chongqing operate at full capacity during peak summer periods. Since the beginning of this year, Chongqing has secured a maximum externally purchased power capacity of 11.87 million kilowatts. Currently, the "Xinjiang Power to Chongqing" project has a maximum transmission capacity of 6 million kilowatts, accounting for approximately one-fifth of the centrally dispatched maximum load of the Chongqing power grid.

To strengthen equipment operation and maintenance, State Grid Chongqing Electric Power completed more than 6,000 grid equipment maintenance tasks before the summer peak, upgraded specialized protection measures for key transmission lines, closely monitored the operating conditions of various equipment under high temperatures, and strictly implemented the "no overnight" mechanism for major defects. Currently, the company dispatches an average of 4,700 professional personnel each day to conduct special inspections and maintenance, making every effort to ensure the safe and stable operation of the Chongqing power grid during periods of high temperatures.
