As high temperatures continue across many regions, Fairy Mountain in Wulong District, Chongqing, has entered its peak summer retreat season, with visitor arrivals surpassing 300,000. The sharp increase in electricity demand has placed considerable pressure on the local power grid. On July 15, State Grid Chongqing Wulong Power Supply Company carried out its first live-line installation of a straight pole, conducting maintenance with “no power outage and zero perceived disruption” to ensure reliable power supply during the summer tourism peak.
On July 10, during a special inspection campaign to safeguard electricity supply for summer visitors at Fairy Mountain, maintenance staff discovered that the ground clearance of the lines between poles No. 01 and No. 03 on the 10 kV Mushuang Line Shuanggao Branch failed to meet safety requirements, creating a potential electric shock hazard. To ensure that businesses, tourists, and residents along the line experienced no interruption, workers conducted an on-site assessment and decided to eliminate the risk through live-line installation of a straight pole.

At noon on July 15, live-line workers wearing insulating shoulder protection and gloves were lifted more than ten meters into the air by insulated bucket trucks. They completed a series of standardized procedures, including protective covering of conductors, pole shielding, and accessory installation. Encased in sealed protective equipment with limited ventilation, the workers were drenched in sweat but continued operating without pause. After more than two hours of work, the straight pole was successfully installed.

To ensure reliable power supply for summer visitors at Fairy Mountain, State Grid Chongqing Wulong Power Supply Company has invested 23.4 million yuan since the beginning of this year to upgrade aging equipment in the area. The company has also deployed two mobile generator units, two generator cabins, and one UPS mobile power supply system.
Meanwhile, the company has organized large-scale blackout emergency drills to minimize impacts on tourists and businesses. It has worked with three major telecom operators to share tourism flow data and deliver targeted electricity service reminders to visitors entering the mountain area. The company has also introduced customized “one-community, one-solution” services, adopting multiple measures to ensure stable grid operation during periods of high temperatures and heavy electricity demand.
