Longdong–Shandong Power Transmission Sets New Daily Record, Exceeding 190 Million kWh

On June 16, the daily power transmission volume of the Longdong–Shandong ±800 kV UHV DC Transmission Project (the “Longdong–Shandong Project”) exceeded 190 million kWh, setting a new daily record since the project began operations. To date, the project has delivered a cumulative 2.327 billion kWh of electricity, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 680,000 households.

Since the start of summer, central and eastern China has faced persistent heatwaves and extreme weather, driving a steady increase in electricity demand across the Shandong power grid. On June 3, the province’s peak electricity load exceeded 100 million kW. As a key wind-solar-thermal-storage integrated power transmission corridor and an important cross-provincial transmission channel for ensuring power supply during the summer peak season, the Longdong–Shandong Project completed its first annual inspection, maintenance, and defect rectification after being put into operation on April 2.

To ensure safe and stable operation during the summer peak period, the Qingyang Converter Station at the sending end has implemented a 24-hour on-site duty system. Leveraging intelligent technologies, including automated inspection systems for converter transformers, infrared temperature monitoring terminals in valve halls, and an integrated online monitoring platform, the station continuously collects and analyzes equipment temperatures and key operating parameters of the oil, gas, and water cooling systems around the clock. It automatically generates equipment status analysis reports and has established an integrated O&M system featuring intelligent monitoring, online assessment, offline special inspections, and data traceability.

This upgrade has transformed the converter station’s maintenance approach from manual monitoring to “smart collaborative protection,” ensuring that the Longdong–Shandong Project operates in optimal condition to meet the challenge of ensuring reliable power supply during the 2026 summer peak season.

According to the manager of the Qingyang Converter Station, since its commissioning, the Longdong–Shandong Project has become a key channel for cross-regional power supply, delivering a total of 34.118 billion kWh of electricity to Shandong. It has not only provided strong support for the rapidly growing electricity demand in eastern China, but also become a backbone facility supporting national energy security and the transition toward a greener energy structure. The project serves as an important bridge for energy cooperation and green development between Gansu and Shandong provinces.
