On the morning of August 1, the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Dairy Congress was held at the Chilechuan Grassland Thousand-Person Conference Center in Hohhot.
During a key segment of the ceremony, Pavinee Chinachoti, Executive President of the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST), officially presented Hohhot with the plaque naming it the “World Dairy Capital” on behalf of the Union. Hohhot Mayor He Haidong received the plaque, while Pan Gang, Chairman and President of Yili Group, accepted the “World Dairy Capital” trophy on behalf of the company.
From being named the “China Dairy Capital” in 2005, to the “World Dairy Science and Technology Capital” and “China Dairy Breeding Capital” in 2023, and further to the “World Dairy Capital” in 2026, Hohhot has achieved three major leaps in the development of its dairy industry brand over more than 20 years. The awarding of the “World Dairy Capital” title marks a historic leap for the city, which is home to two world-class dairy giants, Yili and Mengniu, marking its transition from domestic industry recognition to international recognition.
